ACT5 is a transition program that aims to bring postsecondary training to life through training exploration. This hands-on exploration event has come to ESU5 students this summer of 2024. This programming is available for Vocational Rehabilitation, Pre-ETS, students ages 14-21 years old who have not received their high school diploma. Experiences can include learning about accommodations, creating advocacy plans, exploring training areas, connection education as it relates to career choices, and learning about post secondary training. This summer several schools in the surrounding areas will be participating in this hands-on program, for a week at their home schools. ESU 5 participated in this program with students who will be entering the FIVE Academy at SCC-Beatrice.
This fall 2024/25, ESU5 will be starting the FIVE Academy, which will be based at SCC-Beatrice campus. FIVE Academy is for students with disabilities and a partnership between ESU 5/ SCC - Beatrice. This Transition Program offers a variety of practice opportunities for secondary students with disabilities, ages 18-21. FIVE Academy is appropriate for students leaving 9-12 grade programming that need continued focus in the areas of:
Education
Employment
Independent Living, if appropriate
All services take place at the host site of SCC - Beatrice with age appropriate peers. Young adults rotate through multiple job sites, work on academic skills, practice independent living skills and connect with agencies that may continue with them into adult life.
FIVE Academy application is open to any student within the ESU 5 boundaries that has completed 9-12 grade programming and has not graduated with a high school diploma (social graduation may have occurred). Should you need further information please contact Dr. Brenda Tracy or Dr. Brenda McNiff at ESU 5 directly.
