Our first graders had a blast in class recently, engaging in a creative hands-on activity that helped them understand contractions in a way they’ll never forget! The students transformed into “Word Doctors,” ready to perform a little “word surgery” to help fix up some common contractions.

With paper, scissors, band-aids, and plenty of enthusiasm, each child “operated” on different words, cutting and combining them to create contractions like “don’t,” “can’t,” and “won’t.” As budding doctors, they carefully matched up the right words, then applied their knowledge of how contractions work to stitch them together in the proper way.

This fun and interactive activity not only helped our first graders master the basics of contractions, but also sparked their imaginations and gave them a hands-on, memorable learning experience. It’s safe to say, our young learners are now well on their way to becoming “Word Doctors” themselves, diagnosing and treating words with the perfect contractions!
